Demetrios “Demi”Pulas, Jr.
Demi is currently a Senior Attorney with the firm of HuschBlackwell, LLP, in their Washington, D.C. office, where he specializes in federal corporate compliance and regulatory enforcement matters as well as white collar criminal defense. Prior to joining HuschBlackwell, Demi retired from Federal service where he served as a Branch Chief and Senior Investigative/Trial Attorney in the Division of Investigations, Office of Enforcement, of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). While in Federal service, Demi conducted many investigations which led to civil enforcement proceedings on behalf of FERC for violations of various federal energy and environmental statutes. Demi also participated in the conduct of criminal proceedings, with various U.S. Attorney Offices and the U.S. Department of Justice Criminal Division for violations of various energy and environmental statutes.
Demi is currently an adjunct instructor with Virginia Gun Safety, Inc., Springfield, Virginia, and is an NRA instructor certified in the following NRA courses: basic pistol; rifle; shotgun; personal protection in the home; personal protection outside the home; refuse to be a victim; home firearms safety; range safety officer; and chief range safety officer. As a licensed attorney, Demi also provides instruction in that portion of the NRA personal protection outside the home course concerning justification in the use of deadly force, as well as legal issues associated with the aftermath involved in a self-defense shooting from arrest and possible indictment and criminal trial, and potential subsequent civil proceedings.
Demi also has 9 years of combined active and reserve military experience with the U.S. Army, where he served in the airborne infantry and military police.
Demi first learned to shoot competitive air rifles at the age of 10 by local police officers while a youth member of the Police Athletic League in New York, and then broadened his experience shooting small bore rifle and shotgun at camp as a Boy Scout. Based on those early shooting experiences, Demi believes in encouraging youth to safely participate in the shooting sports through his efforts as an active volunteer scouter with the National Capital Area Council, BSA. Demi currently serves as a Venture Crew Advisor, member of the Council Shooting Sports Committee, and as a scout rifle and shotgun merit badge counselor. In order to keep his shooting skills sharp, Demi enjoys competing in International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) matches in the mid-Atlantic region.
Demi is also a Red Cross Instructor training scouts and their leaders, as well as the general public in basic first aid and CPR/AED, and Wilderness and Remote First Aid courses. Demi is also a certified Wilderness First Responder (SOLO) trained in advanced wilderness medical protocols. In keeping with his service oriented background, Demi also serves his community as a member of the Fairfax County, Virginia, Community Emergency Responses Team. Finally, Demi is also an Extra Class amateur radio operator, where he provides communications support to first responders in the event of natural or man-made disasters through his participation in the Fairfax, Virginia, Amateur Radio Emergency Service group.
